Hollister ULC, Ballina
This project was a 7500m2 extension to Hollister’s medical device facility at Ballina. It consisted of a single storey warehouse/production floor area; a two storey area with offices, conference rooms, and laboratories; a first floor plant room; car parking; truck road; truck yard with eight bay dock leveller access; and a service yard.
Construction consisted of metal deck low pitched roof on purlins on steel trusses supported on steel stanchions on a 20m x 18m grid. The ground floor consisted of a steel fibre reinforced concrete screed bonded to precast prestressed hollowcore units on reinforced concrete ground beams on pile caps on precast driven piles.
A precast prestressed hollowcore unit floor was utilised in the two storey section at ground and first floor level and a composite concrete floor slab was utilised for the first floor plant room.
A mechanically stabilised stone sub-base utilising geogrids and geotextiles was used under trafficked areas in poor ground. A separate foul sewer was provided for the new extension with pumped outlet to the Local Authority sewer. Attenuation was provided at two locations on the surface water drainage system. A rain water harvesting unit was installed to reduce reliance on the the Local Authority supply. The existing entrance road was upgraded along with the existing drainage system.
